Today I learned that my favorite little pony, Fancy, has been badly hurt. She has a large gash on her lower shoulder that needed staples. My riding instructor, Kris thinks that the other horse(s) pinned her in a corner and attacked her. I believe that to be true because anytime a horse walks past her, she flares her nostrils and pins her ears back. When she first came to ClerView, she was not friendly to other horses and would kick at them if they got near. In the past few years she's been there she has calmed down quite a bit and could now be safely led beside one of her pasture mates into the barn. And now after this incident, it has undone all her trust in the horses and she is back to the way she was before. I think this should be Regans que to retire her from the lessons... I am hoping to be able to somehow work with Fancy so she can trust the other horses again.I love her so, so much.
I'm so sorry for Fancy, darling. I'm also sorry that it has caused you a certain sadness. But I'm proud of you for sticking with her and for your desire and resolve to help her regain her social contact with the other horses. Good for you, Becs. Your love for Fancy is a good thing.
